Construction is underway on a new “First Gate” entrance to replace the old one which has always been a difficult turn for modern vehicles. It was originally built for carriages. A new 26-˝ ft. gate must be purchased and installed, a new wall built, and landscaping for this area completed.
Three cistern lids, which were donated two years ago by Mary Frances Barksdale, that were cemented in place in the Cistern Houses, have been stolen. Does anyone have a small cistern lid they would like to donate?
We also need a new computer and printer. Our old, donated computer will not store enough data to maintain our records.
As you can see, there is a never-ending effort to preserve our cemetery as “one of the most beautiful and unique cemeteries in the South” to quote Greg Iles in his new book, Sleep No More.
As a community effort, we will care for our cemetery and see that it is remembered as the best. |
