05/19/2003 - Angels On The Bluff 2003

Each October, guides conduct walking tours of the cemetery where stories are told about the history of various people buried here.

During the tours, descendant commentaries are given while dressed in period costumes. Several are accompanied with musical tributes.

For 2003 the tours will be on Friday October 24th and Saturday October 25th. Also, this year on Sunday October 26th there will be a performance at the Natchez City Auditorium beginning at 2:00p.m.

Tours are from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with walking tours beginning every 15 minutes.

There is no public parking at the cemetery so we provide free shuttle transportation from the Natchez Visitors Center to the cemetery. Please board shuttles 30 minutes prior to tours.

Tickets for all events are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.

Tickets and information available at the:
Natchez Visitor Reception Center
640 Canal Street, Natchez, MS 39120
Tel. 601-446-6345 or 1-800-647-6724

Some of the scheduled portrayals for this year include:

Simon Mayer – A Jewish Confederate major that was 4’ 8” tall.

Jennie Merrill – The murder victim of Goat Castle fame.

Duncan Minor – A celebrated piano player whose career was cut short when a falling window crushed his fingers. He was also the lover of Jennie Merrill.

Rufus Learned – A prominent 1800’s Natchez resident who made a fortune in the lumber business. He was also the president of Britton and Koontz Bank at the time.

Charles West & Kate Schwartz – This beautiful couple were engaged to be married but drowned in the Mississippi River in 1911.

Other people will be portrayed so don’t miss the Angels on the Bluff tour this year.
